Six candidates gathered in the lounge on the 13th floor of the Vertex building for an interview to be the assistant to the General Manager of Spectrum Pharmaceuticals. Darnell Halford, a young man in casual attire, showed up and took charge of the interview. He dismissed the candidates one by one with various reasons. Later, when Areli Fanshaw, the general manager, was about to conduct the interview, she found only Darnell left. Darnell presented a resume with mostly "None" entries, which angered Areli.

A young African woman, Laurel Barber, came in with a list of medicines from a competitor but couldn't communicate as her interpreter was unavailable. Darnell, surprisingly, could speak her language and learned she was a princess from the Spades Tribe seeking a $5 million order. Roberto, the deputy general manager, was skeptical and mocked the situation, but Darnell's interpretation was later verified by Grayson Albany, an expert on African languages. Laurel got angry at Roberto's disrespect and attacked him. She showed a black card to prove her ability to pay. Areli decided to cooperate, and Darnell negotiated for Roberto to apologize and compensate him. Areli hired Darnell as her assistant with certain conditions.

After helping with the order, Darnell met with Areli. She offered him a team leader position in the sales department, but he refused, preferring to be her assistant. Areli then received a call from David Kemp, an ex-boyfriend, asking for a dinner to explain a misunderstanding. Areli reluctantly agreed. After hanging up, she passed out, and Darnell helped her. While massaging her, he accidentally stirred her desire. In the end, Areli felt rejuvenated and invited Darnell to dinner to solve a problem.
