I'm Hannah Sears, and my life was supposed to take a beautiful turn on my wedding day. I had dreamed of that moment for as long as I could remember - wearing an elegant white gown, holding a bouquet, walking down the aisle towards Jeffrey, the man I loved. I thought he was the one, the person with whom I'd build a happy, simple life. Little did I know that my fairytale was about to turn into a nightmare.
Six months ago, Jeffrey proposed to me on my 25th birthday. He was perfect in my eyes, showering me with love and attention. Despite not coming from a wealthy family, I was content. I had never truly felt happy in half of my life, and I believed Jeffrey was my ticket to that long - awaited happiness. But all my dreams crashed and burned on what was supposed to be the happiest day of my life.
As I was about to put on my wedding dress, my stepmother, Francesca, burst into the room and told me it wasn't for me. Before I could even comprehend what she meant, Aspen, my stepsister, entered with Jeffrey. The atmosphere was instantly strange. Jeffrey, who was supposed to be waiting for me at the church, looked pale and nervous. And then, Aspen dropped the bombshell - she was pregnant with Jeffrey's child, and Jeffrey said he had to marry her. I was devastated. I couldn't believe that the man I loved and my own stepsister had betrayed me like this. It felt like my whole world had ended.
But the nightmare didn't stop there. After being forced to witness Jeffrey and Aspen's wedding, Francesca introduced me to Edward and told me I was going to marry Alden Harrison, the son of a bankrupt billionaire. Alden, who had recently become wheelchair - bound due to an accident, was a complete stranger to me. I refused at first, but then my father, John, had a heart attack. The medical bills were exorbitant, and we had no insurance. Francesca was of no help, and I realized that the only way to save my father's life was to accept Alden's proposal.
I met Alden at his mansion, and he was nothing like I expected. He was rude and cold, questioning why he should marry me and what I could offer him. He insulted me, and I felt humiliated. But I knew I had no choice. For the sake of my father, I had to endure it all. And so, I agreed to marry him.
Our wedding was nothing like I had imagined. There was no church, no minister's blessing. It was more like a business deal. We signed a prenuptial agreement with some harsh terms, including the clause that if I got pregnant, the child would be Alden's property and I would have no rights to custody or visitation if we divorced. After the wedding, I moved into Alden's mansion, which felt more like a cemetery. I was all alone with him, as Edward, his right - hand man, was going abroad with his father for medical treatment.
The first night, I got lost in the mansion and accidentally walked into Alden's room. He was drunk, shouting someone's name - Sarah. When he saw me, he lashed out, throwing a bottle at me. I was terrified. The next day, Alden came to my room, telling me to be in the dining room on time. He also noticed a scratch on my face, which was probably from the broken glass, and said he'd have a servant attend to it.
Then, Alden sent me to Texco Company, the company where Jeffrey worked. I had no idea why he wanted me to go there. When I arrived at the company, I was shocked to see Aspen in the visitors' room. She started taunting me, and things quickly escalated. She poured hot water on my face, and I slapped her in return. Jeffrey entered the room, and Aspen lied, saying I had slapped her without provocation. Just as I was about to defend myself, Bernard Gulfman's secretary, Susan, came in. I was then taken to Bernard's office, where he was kind enough to offer me spare clothes.
I'm still not sure what Alden's plan is by sending me to Texco. I don't know how I'm going to survive in this marriage with a man I don't know and who seems to dislike me. But I'm determined to find a way. I won't let Aspen and Jeffrey's betrayal break me. And I'll do whatever it takes to protect my father and myself.
My life has been turned upside down, but I'm ready to face whatever challenges come my way. I may have lost my first love and my dignity, but I still have my father, and I'll fight for a better future, even if it means fighting against all odds in this unexpected marriage with Alden.
