Rosemary Harris returns home to find her father, Andrew Harris, being scolded by Laurie, his wife, about a $3 million loss in the company. Laurie and her daughter Daisy are mean to Rosemary, suggesting she wants to take over the company. They also mention the Grant family's search for a girl born on July 15th to marry their vegetative son, Wilson Grant. Rosemary is unhappy about this as she has a crush on someone, John Sawyer.
Charles Burch, the Grant family's lawyer, comes to discuss the Harris Group's debt. Laurie reveals Rosemary's birthday, which interests Burch. Later, Rosemary discovers John Sawyer is having dinner with Daisy at the Venus Hotel. Confused and heartbroken, she leaves.
Back home, the Grant family arrives. Old Mrs. Grant decides Rosemary will marry Wilson Grant, believing it will wake him. Despite the suddenness, Rosemary agrees to help her father as the company is in trouble. She is given a white jade bracelet. Andrew Harris tells her to suspend school as the Grant family doesn't want the Young Mrs. Grant in public, but Rosemary wants to discuss this. That night, Rosemary cries over John Sawyer's betrayal. The next morning, the Grant family sends a proposal, and Rosemary tries to make herself presentable despite looking pale and haggard.
