The shrill sound of the alarm pierced through the morning silence, jolting Emily awake. Despite still feeling groggy from a lack of sufficient sleep, she managed to reach out and switch off the alarm. Just then, the door to her room creaked open, and her mother walked in. "Get up, Emily, or you'll be late for work," her mother said as she opened the window, allowing the warm rays of the sun to stream into the room.
Emily pleaded, "Can't I just sleep a bit more, just a few more minutes, Mom, please?" But her mother was having none of it. "Stop being lazy and get up. Didn't you say you had a presentation today?" That reminder was enough to get Emily out of bed in a hurry. "Oh no! The presentation. I won't make it on time," she exclaimed as she dashed off to the bathroom to take a quick shower.
Emily and her colleagues had been working hard on this presentation for days. She often came home late because of it, and now, on the day of the presentation, she had overslept. As she put on her shoes and rushed downstairs, her father asked, "Why are you in such a hurry, dear?" Her mother answered on her behalf, "She woke up late, and today is the day for her presentation at work." Emily quickly said goodbye to her parents and left the house.
Not wanting to waste time waiting for the bus, she hailed a taxi. While the taxi driver navigated through the busy streets of Los Angeles, Emily took out her laptop and tried to finish setting up the presentation. When they finally arrived at her workplace, she paid the driver and got out of the taxi in a rush. But in her haste, she bumped into someone, and her laptop fell to the ground. "Oh no! Oh no!" she cried as she knelt down to pick it up. She tried to turn it on, but it wouldn't start. All their hard work was on that laptop, and if it was damaged, the presentation would have to be postponed.
The man she had bumped into asked, "Are you okay, miss?" Emily replied angrily, "Okay? Is this being okay?" and showed him the broken laptop. The man said, "I didn't mean to bump into you, and you should have watched where you were going." Emily felt like punching him in the face. "I was getting out of a taxi, and you were walking on the street. Don't I have a right to be mad at you?" she yelled.
The man then said, "Look, miss, I have to get to an appointment soon, and you're delaying me." He stared at his watch impatiently. "Why don't we do this? I'll give you my number. You can call me later and make any complaint about your laptop, and I'll settle it handsomely. But right now, I have to get to that appointment." He turned to leave, but Emily quickly blocked his path. "Miss!" he called, a bit more impatiently.
Emily said, "Mr! I didn't do all this to get your stupid money or to call you. As you must know, I'm also going to a very important meeting, and all I had was in this laptop and....." The man interrupted her, "Okay, you need the money now, right? Well, wait!" He took out some notes from his wallet and took Emily's hand, pressing the notes into it. "This is all I have with me. If you had called me later on, I would have given you more than this. So now, we're even." He moved past her again.
Angrily, Emily went after him and pushed him so hard that he lost his balance and fell to the floor. "Are you crazy, miss?" he asked, looking furious. Emily shouted, "You think your damn money is everything, right? A simple sorry would have sufficed, yet you kept on being arrogant. Just how much do you possess that you flaunt it around?" She continued, "Your money won't do it, Mr! So have it back. I think you need it more than I do, to help wash off your damn arrogance." She threw the money at him and said, "How dare you?" Then she added, "No, how dare you? Just who do you think you are? Or no, I know who you are. You're nothing but a mannerless jerk. Your parents didn't train you properly." The man started to say something, but Emily cut him off, "You haven't been told this before, right? Well, I just did. That will give you something to think about, you arrogant jerk." She left him sitting on the floor and took the lift to her quarters.
As soon as she got there, her colleagues crowded around her. "Emily, what took you so long?" Gracie asked as they all made their way to the presentation room. Emily said, "Something occurred." She set her laptop on the table and plugged in the charger, and fortunately, it turned on. Michael, who was also part of the team, asked, "You look worried. Is something wrong with the presentation we made?" Emily replied, "I just happened to bump into an arrogant idiot, but it's nothing. And our presentation is ready. All it's waiting for is for the owner to see it."
