In a lavishly decorated business party hall, the air was filled with an atmosphere of opulence and anticipation. Easton, looking dashing in his impeccably tailored black suit, knelt down on one knee with a bouquet of vibrant red roses in his hand. His expression was one of feigned earnestness as he looked up at me and said, "Audrey, marry me." The crowd that had gathered around us erupted into cheers and continuous applause, their voices filling the space.

I, in a state of shock and disbelief, quickly scanned the room and immediately spotted Madelyn, Easton's true love, among the onlookers. She was standing there, biting her lip so hard that it seemed as if she was trying to hold back a torrent of emotions. Tears were welling up in her eyes, threatening to spill over at any moment.

At that precise instant, it dawned on me that I had transmigrated into a book, and not just any book, but the overly melodramatic romance novel that I had finished reading the night before. The realization hit me like a bolt of lightning.

Seeing that I had remained unresponsive for an extended period, Easton leaned in closer to me, his breath warm on my ear as he whispered, "Audrey, considering how long you've pined for me, I'll agree to marry you. But you need to know your place." To the people watching, it appeared as if he had affectionately kissed my cheek, but I knew the true nature of his words. The crowd around us kept urging me, their voices growing louder and more insistent, shouting, "Say yes!"

In the original storyline of the novel, I had indeed agreed to marry him. However, what followed was a nightmare. After our marriage, he completely disregarded my existence, treating me as if I were invisible. He brought Madelyn into our home, and I was forced to endure the sound of their intimate moments, which was like a dagger to my heart. He even went so far as to get Madelyn pregnant right in front of me, flaunting their relationship and rubbing salt in my wounds. Madelyn, emboldened by Easton's actions, constantly flaunted her superiority and bullied me openly, making my life a living hell. Worst of all, he masterminded the downfall of my father's company simply because my father had slapped Madelyn in an attempt to defend me. After the company went bankrupt, I was left with no choice but to beg Madelyn for forgiveness and mercy, a humiliation that I would never forget.

Looking at this hypocrite before me now filled me with a sense of disgust and loathing. Without a second thought, I raised my hand and slapped him hard across the face, the sound of the slap echoing in the now-silent hall. "Get lost," I said firmly, my voice filled with determination.

Then, under the stunned gazes of everyone present, I walked purposefully towards a young man in the corner of the room who seemed to exude an icy aura. He was Nicholas, who in the original story was Easton's greatest rival. Eventually, he was framed and killed by Easton and Madelyn. But now, given this chance, I was determined not to follow the tragic path of the original protagonist. I was done being a substitute and enduring the twisted and painful love stories. I was going to live for myself this time.

I walked up to Nicholas and without hesitation, hugged him tightly. "Will you marry me? I'm great at taking care of people!" I said, my eyes sparkling with a mixture of boldness and hope, forming beautiful crescent moons. Nicholas was clearly taken aback by my audacity. A blush slowly crept up his ears as he stood there, seemingly frozen in place. Looking at his reaction, I thought to myself that despite his cold and heartless reputation, he was clearly inexperienced when it came to matters of the heart. Rumor had it that Nicholas disliked women and never had any in his company or personal life.

The crowd was completely dumbfounded. The once-bustling banquet hall had now fallen into a deathly silence. After a few moments, someone finally managed to speak up, their voice filled with shock and disbelief. "Has Audrey gone mad? Wasn't she head over heels for Easton? How dare she slap him?"

Easton's sharp gaze was fixed on me, his face darkening with anger. "How dare she? Nicholas is known for being cold and ruthless. Just wait. She'll be thrown out," he muttered through gritted teeth. Hearing his words made me feel a bit scared. But I knew that what was done was done, and there was no turning back now.

Nicholas took a moment to fully react. This was clearly his first time encountering such a bold woman, especially one who had just rejected his arch-enemy Easton. After a brief pause, he seemed to find the situation rather interesting and decided to play along. His clear voice sounded in my ear, "Alright." His cooperation surprised me, and I wasn't quite sure what to make of it.

Easton's gaze was icy and piercing as if he was trying to bore holes into me. I felt a mixture of fear and regret. How could I have been so impulsive and provoked such a ruthless man? I had acted
