In the personal presidential suite of Magnificent Hotel in Rodcaster, Alice Woland wakes up after a night with a man whose face she couldn't see clearly in the dark. Fearing the man might be part of a threat, she handcuffs him to the bed and attempts to escape.

Alice first tries to leave through Elevator Number 5 but realizes the man has quickly arranged to block her escape. She then uses the elevator's stops and her bag to create distractions, getting into Elevator Number 3 and making it seem like she's going to the 48th floor while actually getting out and heading for the stairwell. She remembers a masquerade on the third floor and plans to seek help there.

Ethan Knight, the man she handcuffed, is highly capable and uses a tracking device. However, Alice manages to erase the hotel's security footage. Ethan, realizing she's likely at the costume party on the third floor, heads there.

At the party, Alice approaches Billy Yeager, using secrets about his family to ask for help leaving the hotel. Billy agrees, but just as they are about to leave, Alice is pulled into the arms of a masked man. She suspects it might be Ethan.

This story is filled with suspense and intrigue as Alice tries to outwit Ethan and escape the hotel. The characters' actions and the twists and turns in the plot make it an engaging read. The setting of the hotel and the masquerade add to the mystery and tension. If you enjoy stories with strong female protagonists, complex male characters, and a lot of action and suspense, this one is definitely worth reading.
