The story begins with Alva Hill, who, due to hospital negligence, was displaced for twenty years before returning to the Hill family. Her twin sister, Bella Hill, is the favored one in the family. A year ago, Alva was tricked by Bella into going rock climbing and was then secretly imprisoned in the wine cellar of the villa next door. During her imprisonment, she became pregnant, but Bella snatched the child away as soon as it was born.

After escaping from the cellar a month ago, Alva discovers that Bella has declared her dead. The Hill family has confirmed her death, and a disfigured body was found at the bottom of a cliff, which was believed to be Alva's. With no other choice, Alva assumes Bella's identity and enters the Richter family as Bella.

Walker Richter, Bella's husband, returns from a business trip drunk one night and mistakes Alva for Bella. This encounter makes Alva realize the complexity of her situation. As she tries to adapt to her new life, she discovers many secrets. For example, Walker and Bella have always slept in separate rooms, and there are rumors about Walker's infidelity.

Alva also meets Fiona Croix, her only confidante, who has just gone through a divorce. Fiona warns Alva about the danger of staying in the Richter family, but Alva is determined to find her child and uncover the truth about her "death."

At the Richter family's old mansion, Alva faces various challenges. Nancy Richter suggests that she play the piano with Miley, but Alva, who has no piano skills, manages to avoid it by injuring her hand. However, Walker's actions and words during this incident make Alva suspect that he may have noticed something amiss.

Later, Alva discovers a landscape painting by Ulysses Will at a gallery, which leads her to believe that he is still alive. She finds Ulysses, but he rejects her, claiming that he loves Bella and that he was with Bella on the night Alva thought they were together. This revelation shatters Alva's heart.

Back at the Richter family, Alva's relationship with Walker becomes more complicated. She gets drunk and has a confrontation with Walker, during which she blurts out some things that may arouse his suspicion. Walker warns her to keep her place as Ms. Richter.

Alva returns to the Hill family and discovers some shocking secrets in Bella's diary. She suspects that Sweetheart, Walker and Bella's daughter, may actually be the child of Ulysses and Bella. This suspicion is further fueled when she overhears her parents' conversation, which makes her wonder if the entire Hill family was involved in her imprisonment and the cover - up of her "death."

At a clubhouse, Alva runs into Nancy Richter, Ulysses Will, and Pheobe Wilson. Pheobe, Walker's old flame, openly expresses her ambition to become Ms. Richter. Alva has a confrontation with Pheobe, which angers Walker when he finds out. He warns Alva again, and Alva realizes that getting a divorce from Walker is not an easy option as Bella Hill holds a ten - percent share of the Richter Group, which was given to protect her position as Ms. Richter.

Fiona Croix suggests that Alva try to make Walker fall in love with her to protect herself and find her child. Alva decides to take this risk. When Sweetheart gets sick, Alva takes care of her in the hospital. During this time, she has a more intimate interaction with Walker. She even makes a deal with Walker, saying that if she can make him fall in love with her within three months, he has to hold a grand wedding for her; otherwise, she will give up the shares and leave the Richter family.

However, Alva faces competition from Kelly Zex, a new maid in the Richter family who is trying to seduce Walker. Also, Walker's relationship with Pheobe Wilson continues to be a source of trouble for Alva. Just as Alva is trying to figure out how to win Walker's heart, she receives a call from Helen Lancelot, Bella's friend, who tells her that Walker is with a woman at a nightclub. When she goes to the nightclub, she bumps into a strange man who makes her feel uneasy with his words about "escape."
