This captivating story unfolds around Calista, a young woman on the cusp of her 20th birthday. On the morning of her birthday, she wakes up to the voices of an unexpected guest in her home. To her shock, it's Chase Draven Gotti, the second son of a powerful Mafia boss, John Gotti. Calista soon discovers that her father had stolen from Chase five years ago. As repayment, Chase demands that Calista live with him, leaving her no choice but to comply to save her parents' lives.
Calista is then taken to Chase's residence, where she meets Sophia and Isabella. They share the same fate of paying off their family debts and become Calista's companions. Sophia, the more experienced of the two, takes Calista under her wing and teaches her the ropes of serving Chase. She warns Calista about the strict rules of the house, like the importance of being punctual when serving Chase, wearing a mask, and remaining silent no matter the insults.
The girls' lives in the house are filled with challenges. Amelia, along with her followers Sean and Deane, bullies them constantly. One day in the kitchen, Amelia and her group try to intimidate Calista and her friends. However, Calista stands up to them, refusing to be bullied. Despite the difficult situation, Calista, Sophia, and Isabella stick together and support one another.
When it's Calista's turn to serve Chase, she has a series of awkward encounters. While applying cream on his back as part of her duty, she's caught off guard by his sudden presence and her own reaction to his appearance. After leaving Chase's room, she bumps into Rowan, Chase's younger brother. Rowan is kind to her, a stark contrast to Chase's cold demeanor.
Back in her room, Calista learns from Sophia and Isabella about Chase's past. His first girlfriend died while protecting him, and he's been single ever since, still deeply affected by her death. This revelation gives Calista a new perspective on Chase. Meanwhile, Amelia is determined to make Calista's life miserable and warns her to stay away from Chase, but Calista doesn't take her threats seriously.
Outside, Calista's best friend Emma is worried sick about her disappearance. She refuses to believe that Calista won't return and is committed to taking care of Calista's parents in the meantime. One day, after work, Emma runs into Martin, a guy she has a crush on. Martin offers to walk her home, and though Emma suspects he might be doing it because of Calista, she enjoys the momentary distraction from her worries.
As the story progresses, the complex relationships between the characters continue to develop. Chase's coldness masks his inner pain, and Calista's determination to survive in this new environment tests her limits. With the constant threat of Amelia's bullying and the mystery of how long Calista will have to stay with Chase, the story keeps readers on the edge of their seats, eager to see how Calista's situation will unfold and whether she will ever find a way to return to her normal life.
