Leo walked down the long and elegantly decorated aisle that led away from his company building. The click of his polished shoes echoed in the corridor as he made his way towards the waiting car. His many protection squad members stood in a straight line, side by side, their uniforms crisp and their postures rigid as they saluted him with precision and respect as he passed by. Each of them had a solemn look on their face, a testament to the importance of the man they were protecting.
He got into the sleek, black car and laid his head on the plush headrest with a deep sigh. The exhaustion was evident in his every movement. He was tired, bone-tired, and he knew he desperately needed sleep. But resting hadn't been an option for the past three days. There had been a multitude of matters to take care of, from important business deals that required his meticulous attention to handling various issues that arose within his organization.
The car smoothly drove to the magnificent Vance mansion. The driver, with a respectful bow, opened the car door for Leo. Leo stepped out, a sense of pride swelling within him as he walked into his sprawling mansion, a place that was solely his own. He was a proud man, some might even say arrogant, but he believed he had every right to be. He had worked day and night, tirelessly, to acquire all that he had. The dreadful things he had to get involved in to make his money didn't matter to him; all that mattered was the result of his hard work and determination.
He was on his way to his home office, intending to have a quick look at some important documents and matters before finally allowing himself to take a well-deserved rest that night. Just as he was about to enter his office, his assistant hurried to catch up with him.
"Sir?" She called out, but received no response. So, she quickened her pace to reach him. By the time she got there, he had already entered his office. She had to stop behind the door and take a deep, steadying breath before gathering the courage to face him.
She knocked three times, the sound reverberating in the quiet hallway, and then opened the door. Fear immediately took over her, as it always did whenever she had to be alone with him. There was something about him that made him a truly scary man.
"Uhm, Sir I..." She paused abruptly when his piercing eyes fell on her. She didn't like the way he was looking at her; she never had. But she wasn't about to quit her job because the pay was extremely generous.
"Come here." His order was simple and direct, and she knew it had to be obeyed without question. She walked closer to his office desk, now standing opposite to where he sat. At that moment, she saw a malicious smile slowly edge its way onto his lips.
"You look pretty today, unlike other days." She heard him say. She wasn't sure if she should say thanks or not, so she just managed a nervous smile and decided to continue with what she had to say.
"Sir, Damian was here some minutes ago. He just left." She talked fast, hoping she wouldn't be interrupted by him again.
Leo's smile vanished instantly. He knew that whatever had made Damian, his head of security, come to see him in person instead of simply placing a call, must be something serious.
"Get out," he told her, his mood clearly having been tampered with. But his assistant still had important information to convey.
"He asked me not to call you to inform you of his presence. He said that's not safe. And he asked me to give this to you." She took out a folded sheet of paper from her folder and held it out in front of her boss with her hands trembling slightly. She had worked with this man for years, but his intimidating presence still made her nervous.
"Leave." Leo took the sheet from her and watched as she almost scurried away. Before she could fully leave, he stopped her.
"Get me a woman to spend the night with." He gave her an assignment, and she just nodded quickly before finally leaving the room.
When his assistant was gone, he opened the sheet and saw just six words of information: 'Omar Troja is in City N.'
"Omar," Leo said the name out loud and then chuckled softly. He knew exactly who Omar was. They both had attended the military together in the past. But while one had chosen to work for the government, the other had opted to pursue a different path, choosing to make money by any means necessary, regardless of the consequences.
He smiled to himself, realizing that he now had to be more cautious. Now that Omar had been appointed to come after him, he knew how intelligent and capable Omar was. But he also believed that he himself was even smarter.
