Elisa White, a doctor at Westmead Hospital, encounters the mysterious Brich family. Late one night, she returns to her office to find it in disarray and a young child, Bruce, sitting on the sofa. Despite the initial mess, Elisa's anger dissipates when she sees Bruce's face. 

The next day, she receives a call from Bruce, but their conversation is cut short. Later, at a cafe, Bruce clings to Elisa when he sees her, leading to an awkward situation with his father, William. On the weekend, Bruce shows up at Elisa's doorstep alone. 

She takes care of him but asks for his father's phone number, which upsets Bruce. William is furious about Bruce's actions but tries to understand his son's feelings. Bruce expresses his desire to have Elisa accompany him, and William makes a deal with him. Meanwhile, Elisa is busy with work and receives messages from Ellen about a gathering involving Brandon and Julia.

After a long day, William shows up at her office and proposes to her, which shocks Elisa. As they are in the elevator, Brandon appears, further complicating the situation. William then takes Elisa to her car and drives her home.
