Emma, a young girl, finds herself in a rather unexpected and bewildering situation. Sent by her father to a desolate house in an unfamiliar British county, she is left to fend for herself. The house is in a dilapidated state, with a filthy kitchen, broken plates, and unappealing furniture. Emma, who has never had to work for money in her 17 years of life and is now facing financial constraints as her father has frozen her accounts and taken her phone, is at a loss about how to manage.
As she contemplates her predicament and the upcoming start at the prestigious Lakers University in two days, a sharp knock on the door interrupts her thoughts. Opening the door, she is greeted by a strikingly handsome guy named Derek, who stands at an impressive 6ft and some inches, with deep blue eyes, lightly tanned skin, and rich dark hair tied in a ponytail. Behind him are other guys carrying cleaning equipment. Derek claims to be from the Peipei Cleaning Company and states that the owner of the house, Mr Jason, called them. However, Emma asserts that she is the owner of the house, which takes Derek aback. He then questions her relationship to Mr Jason, suggesting she might be a mistress or a maid, looking at her with disdain.
Emma is appalled by Derek's disrespectful remarks and snaps out of her daze. In a fit of anger, she grabs the phone Derek is using to call the company and smashes it. This enrages Derek, who attempts to grab her but is mysteriously tripped and finds himself on the floor. His wolf, Maru, has an interesting reaction, finding the situation somewhat amusing and also noting that Emma smells nice, hinting at a possible deeper connection.
Clem, another guy with the cleaning crew, reveals that they were contracted by Mr Jason to clean the place. Emma, with her head held high, invites them in, stating that the house is indeed a mess. The encounter between Emma and Derek sets the stage for a complex and intriguing story.
