This novel is a story filled with elements of revenge, mystery, and complex relationships. It centers around two main characters, Henrico and Amelia, and their intertwined fates.
Henrico was wrongly convicted of a crime and spent three and a half years in prison. His life was shattered when he discovered that the woman he loved, Aurora, married another man, Augusto. The injustice of his arrest and the betrayal of his wife fueled his desire for revenge. In prison, he endured a harsh environment filled with the noise of the insane and the constant reminder of his loss. He was sustained by his plan to take back everything that was his, with his ex-wife's family, especially Augustus, in his sights. He even had the opportunity to escape with some inmates but chose to stay, knowing that he needed to be free within the law to execute his revenge properly.
Amelia, on the other hand, is the youngest daughter of the powerful Leal family. Her life seems glamorous as the governor's daughter, but she is trapped in a world of political and social expectations. Her birthdays have become political and social events, and she is constantly surrounded by people she may not truly like. At a cocktail party, she is harassed by a boy named Richard, and her brother-in-law, Peter, comes to her rescue. However, she also overhears a conversation between her father and someone else about a person whose penalty was lessened, which makes her curious and a bit uneasy.
The turning point comes when Henrico is released from prison. He learns about Amelia's 18th - birthday party through Guilhermino, his loyal friend. Remembering his past connection with Amelia (he once found her in his room when she was a child), he decides to attend the party with a mask. At the party, Amelia, who is trying to escape the party's constraints, goes to the bar. There, she meets a mysterious masked man (Henrico). Henrico starts to interact with her, ordering drinks and challenging her to try new things. Amelia is initially resistant but is gradually drawn into his world. They drink tequila together, and as they do, Amelia starts to feel a strange connection with this man, despite not knowing his identity.
As the night progresses, Amelia and Henrico's interaction becomes more and more intense. However, when Amelia's sister Aurora and Peter show up, Henrico realizes he has to leave. Amelia, on the verge of discovering his identity, is left confused and drunk. This encounter sets the stage for further developments in the story, with Henrico's revenge plan seemingly starting to take shape and Amelia's life being unexpectedly disrupted by this mysterious man. The story leaves readers in suspense, eager to find out how Henrico's revenge will unfold and what the consequences will be for Amelia and her family.
