The story unfolds with Irena, a reporter, receiving an unexpected invitation from her editor Peter to come to the office on a Saturday. Filled with anticipation of an important story, she arrives at the quiet headquarters of "The Magazine," only to be startled by a large dog in the lobby.

Upon entering Peter's office, Irena is introduced to Sage Kennedy, the billionaire who has taken over his late father's outdoor supply business, and his partner Amanda Massey. It turns out that Sage's father was involved in illegal practices, including illegal poaching of endangered animals, and information about this is set to be announced the next day. To combat the negative impact on Kennedy Outdoors and the livelihoods of those dependent on it, they plan to hold a press conference in Greenland. Irena is tasked with writing articles to paint the company in a positive light.

Irena is initially reluctant, as she believes it goes against her journalistic principles. She argues with Peter, but he reveals that the magazine is receiving a large donation from Sage in exchange for this story. Sage then pleads with Irena, explaining the importance of saving the jobs, and she finally agrees.

After the meeting, Irena encounters Sage and his dog Titan in the elevator. She tries to make small talk by sharing a random fact about escalators and elevators, which amuses Sage. Back home, Irena tells her roommate Lindsay about the situation. Lindsay is obsessed with Sage, believing they are destined to be together according to a psychic. She also teases Irena about her lingering feelings for her ex - fiancé Brent, as evidenced by a hidden photo.

Meanwhile, Sage is struggling to sleep the night before the trip. He reflects on his new role as CEO, which he never expected, and his complicated relationship with his father. He misses his old, carefree life and the outdoors. In the morning, as he prepares to leave, he has a conversation with his chef Georgia. Just as he's about to leave with Amanda, they learn from the news about more serious accusations against his father, including extortion and misusing company assets. Amanda has to stay behind to deal with the prosecutor, leaving Sage to go to Greenland alone with Irena.
