This captivating fantasy novel unfolds in a world where the Fox Clan dominates the West and the Wolf Clan rules the East. A strict law inscribed on the Seal of Destiny prohibits any 'blood - ties' between the two clans. Violating this law evokes a terrifying curse, and the memory of a past bloody massacre due to such violations still haunts both immortals and humans.
The story centers around Mia and Lin. Mia, who was thought to be human, is actually from the wolf lineage. Lin, the seventh son of the Fox king, married Mia. After their marriage, Lin disappeared, and Mia was soon hunted as the curse began to manifest. One day, while being chased by a search party, Mia, cornered on a peak, jumps. During the fall, she recalls her idyllic past with Lin, from their carefree days in the woods to their perfect wedding. However, after marriage, things took a turn for the worse, and she was left alone to face numerous problems.
Just as Mia was in despair, Lin reappeared and saved her. He decided to take her to the sacred Sea, a place between the living and the dead, to keep her safe. He also planned to visit the Ancient Tree of Knowledge to find an antidote for the curse. Before leaving, Lin had to attend a meeting called by his father, where the Fox king was trying to figure out if any of his sons were involved in the curse - related incident. Meanwhile, at the Wolf camp, the Wolf king was also dealing with the situation. He knew that someone from his royal family might be involved and asked his chief queen to keep an eye on things. The Wolf princes were discussing how to trace the culprit, and Roe, the wolf princess, came up with the idea of going to the Tree of Knowledge to find more information. Xie, her favorite brother, decided to accompany her.
On their way to the Tree of Knowledge, Lin and his companion Boshu, a shapeshifter who was once saved by Lin, entered the Forbidden Woods. This was a levitating and sacred land that could sense people's intentions. Any ill - intentioned person would turn to ashes upon setting foot there. At the same time, Roe and Xie arrived at the Forbidden Woods at night. Both pairs were attacked, with Lin and Boshu falling into a booby trap and Roe and Xie taking shelter in a pit. Eventually, they met, and after some initial suspicion, they decided to work together as they all aimed to solve the mystery of the curse.
Back at the place where Mia was hiding, she heard a noise one day and found an injured man outside the barrier set by Lin. Despite the strong barrier, Mia managed to break through for the first time in her life using her magic. She tried to help the injured man by cleaning his wounds and looking for medicinal herbs. However, the man disappeared without a word of thanks.
As Lin, Boshu, Xie, and Roe continued their journey, they faced more challenges, such as a swarm of bats. After fighting them off, Lin used a family heirloom, an ancient compass - like device that could identify reality. They followed its indication and eventually came across a huge silver mirror, which seemed to hold the key to their next step in uncovering the mystery of the curse and finding a way to break it. The story is filled with love, mystery, and adventure as the characters strive to overcome the curse and the obstacles in their path.
