This novel tells the gripping tale of Ortega, a young woman living in Brimstone Kingdom where werewolves and humans coexist, albeit uneasily. The story begins with Ortega rushing home from the market with heavy grocery bags, running under the scorching sun to avoid punishment from her cruel stepmother, Mrs. Lisa. Despite her efforts, she is met with anger and violence upon her return, highlighting the harsh treatment she endures daily.
Ortega's life takes a drastic turn when she is falsely accused of attacking her stepmother and subsequently beaten by her father, Mr. Nicholas. Her suffering escalates as she faces emotional and physical abuse at the hands of her family, especially her stepsister Vanessa, who mocks her misfortune. This mistreatment culminates in a shocking revelation that the kingdom’s council has decreed all humans must be expelled or killed, leading to Ortega's banishment.
Banished from her home and kingdom, Ortega seeks refuge with her boyfriend Justin, only to discover him in bed with her stepsister, Vanessa. Heartbroken and betrayed, Ortega flees into the night, only to be knocked unconscious in a dark forest. She awakens in Whitestone Palace, where she learns of a society far different from her own, one where humans and werewolves live harmoniously.
In Whitestone, Ortega finds kindness in Priscilla, a maid who reveals that this kingdom does not practice the same cruelty towards humans as Brimstone. Encouraged by Priscilla's support, Ortega contemplates starting anew as a palace maid. The narrative introduces Alpha Derrick and Merrick, twin brothers with contrasting personalities, whose arrival signals potential new dynamics for Ortega’s future in Whitestone.
The novel explores themes of discrimination, familial abuse, betrayal, and the quest for belonging, painting a vivid picture of Ortega’s struggle to find acceptance and peace in an unforgiving world.
