Ella, the 18 - year - old Alpha heiress of the Belden, North Dakota Pack, is on a journey that will change her life. It's October 2015, and she's in the back of a Ford Expedition with her parents, Mitch and Luna Emma Grey. They've been on the road for hours, and Ella is woken from her sleep as they approach St. Cloud.
Her mother, Luna Emma, is a beautiful Swedish - heritage woman, and her father, Mitch, is an imposing Alpha. As they near their destination, they remind Ella of the importance of this inter - pack meeting. Ella, however, is less than thrilled. She's dreading meeting the Minnesota Alphas and their sons, who she believes will only be interested in her as a potential mate or as a means to gain power.
Ella has her own dreams. She's looking at colleges, with the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management being one of her top choices for a business degree. In her pack, wealth comes from their land holdings and mineral rights in the Bakken Oil Fields. But education is just as important to her as her werewolf training.
She has a strong stance against the idea of being mated just for the sake of it. She's seen how some Alphas treat their mates as possessions, like Alpha Lewis of the Fargo Pack, who is arranging to marry Olivia Anderson, who is much younger and not his true mate. Ella's parents try to convince her that finding a true mate can be a beautiful thing, like their own relationship, but Ella is skeptical.
When they arrive at the St. Cloud Pack House, Ella prepares herself for the meet - and - greet. The Pack House is a fortified and carefully designed place, with security measures hidden within what looks like a typical residential subdivision. Their existence as werewolves is a closely guarded secret.
At the reception, Ella meets various Alphas and their families. There's Alpha Goodwin, his son Hunter and heir Curtis. Curtis seems to have an interest in Ella that she quickly dismisses. Then there's Michael Anderson of the Brainerd Pack, and his sons who also take notice of Ella. David Lewis, the Grand Forks Pack Alpha, gives Ella's wolf an uneasy feeling. And finally, the North Shore Pack with Alpha Scott Tanner, his family, and sons who are openly flirting with Ella.
Ella tries to navigate through these social interactions gracefully, but she's constantly on guard. She's more interested in spending time with her friend Carol and Olivia, planning to go water skiing in the afternoon. But she has to be careful, as there are many unmated males around, and in the werewolf world, a bite can start a mating bond, even against her will.
This novel is filled with the tension between tradition and modernity, love and power. Will Ella be able to follow her dreams of education and find a true mate on her own terms? Or will she be forced into a situation that she dreads? Join Ella on her journey as she faces these challenges and discovers the true meaning of love, loyalty, and what it means to be an Alpha heiress.
