On a seemingly ordinary yet secretly turbulent Monday morning, I, Rina, was yanked out of my sleep by the violent ringing of the alarm clock. Lazily, I tried to block out that annoying sound with my pillow. However, a new day had begun nonetheless.
I stood in front of the mirror, looking at my beautiful yet somewhat sorrowful face, my heart filled with mixed emotions. With an average height, a slender figure, long red hair, and sea-blue eyes, this was the appearance I was born with, yet it couldn't prevent the twists and turns in life. Two years ago, my father's passing was like a bolt from the blue, shattering the peace of our family. Shortly after that, my elder brother mysteriously disappeared a few months after my father's funeral, and his whereabouts remain unknown to this day. Since then, our lives have taken a nosedive. The family that once managed to make ends meet is now mired in poverty. At school, I also endured bullying. The ridicule and isolation from my classmates were like constant shadows, and the taunting calls of "pauper girl" pierced my heart like sharp thorns.
In this difficult life, my mother is my warm harbor. Although she is just an ordinary soap dealer, she uses her meager earnings to support the family with great effort. And Mrs. Anika, my school principal, also descended like an angel and promised to sponsor my high school education. Her help is like a beam of light in the darkness, allowing me to see a glimmer of hope in the difficult situation.
That day, I saw the news in the newspaper that the royal prince, Raghav, was about to return to the country. This news caused a sensation in the small town, and every girl went crazy for him, dreaming of becoming his bride. But I, on the other hand, was extremely annoyed by it. In my opinion, it was just a trivial matter that had nothing to do with me. I had more important things to face, such as studying hard at school and enduring the taunts of my classmates.
At school, Zaina and I keep each other company. She is a warm presence in this cold world. When I was bullied by a group of mean girls outside the classroom and fell to the ground in tears, Zaina appeared like a hero and helped me up. She can always give me strength when I need it most, making me believe that even if the whole world turns against me, she will stand firmly by my side.
Far away in New York, Prince Raghav was lost in his thoughts. He was about to return to the hometown he didn't really want to go back to, facing his father's expectations and the responsibilities of the throne. His entanglement with Bella also filled his heart with complex emotions. Bella longed to follow him back to the kingdom, but Raghav regarded her as nothing more than a bedmate, without deeper feelings.
Back at school, the biology teacher assigned a plant album project, requiring us to collect the leaves of carnivorous plants in the woods. For other classmates, perhaps they could solve the problem with money, but for me, I could only go to that mysterious and dangerous woods in person. In the woods, I managed to find the required leaves with great difficulty. However, just as I was about to return, I heard strange noises and saw a tall, masked man holding a small dagger. At that moment, fear flooded over me like a tidal wave. I hid behind a tree, my heart full of doubts and uneasiness, not knowing who this man was and why he was here.
My life is like a small boat tossing in a storm, full of unknown challenges and dangers. But I know that I must face all of this bravely, whether it is the impoverished life, the bullying from classmates, or the mysterious man in the woods. I believe that at the end of the darkness, there will always be a glimmer of dawn waiting for me.
