The story is set in the year 2996, in a world that has undergone significant changes, most notably the emergence of vampires and a new societal structure that divides humans into dominant (Dom) and submissive (Sub) categories. This classification system further subdivides individuals into specific pairings such as Daddy/Little, Mommy/Little, Master/Pet, and Master/Slave, with roles and responsibilities for each. The society's transformation was precipitated by a chemical gas developed by vampires five hundred years prior, which altered human mental states to fit into these categories. Vampires and humans are now paired together for life, though mixed-race and same-species pairings also exist.
The protagonist, Sophia, is a 15-year-old girl on the brink of her sixteenth birthday, when all humans are tested to determine their category. She lives in a world where she feels out of place and fears being classified as a slave due to her low pain tolerance. Sophia comes from a single-parent household; her mother, a dominant figure, disapproves of her submissive nature and shows little affection towards her. Her father, who was more nurturing and supportive, passed away when she was ten.
On her birthday, Sophia is taken to a classification center where she undergoes both physical and psychological examinations. She is injected with the same chemical that caused the societal shift and connected to a stimulator, after which she is classified as a 'Little Girl' with a regression age of two. The recommendation is for her to be paired with a vampire Dom, and she is sent to an elite Dom/Little institution in DC.
Sophia arrives at the school, a castle-like building, and is introduced to her dorm room and the rules of the institution. She meets Tasha and Timmy, two vampire siblings who escort her to the school, and Madame P., the headmistress, who explains the special nature of the school and the importance of finding a suitable Dom. Sophia expresses a preference for a Daddy Dom, and Madame P. accommodates her request.
During her first day at the school, Sophia attends classes designed to teach littles about their role and how to regress emotionally. She befriends Rory, another little with a regression age of three, and they share similar experiences of being bullied by older students. Sophia also encounters Andy, her former bully from her old school, who threatens her upon seeing her at the new institution.
A turning point occurs when Sophia is found crying and running by Dimitri Vitale, a powerful and centuries-old vampire who is known as the Vitale prince. Dimitri takes an interest in Sophia, feeding her and eventually claiming her to prevent other Doms from pursuing her. After a meeting with Madame P., it is agreed that Sophia will give Dimitri a chance, and he begins to establish rules and boundaries for their relationship, including a list of rules and potential punishments for her to follow.
Sophia's journey is one of adaptation and self-discovery as she navigates this new world, learns to trust Dimitri, and starts to understand what it means to be a little in a Dom/Little dynamic. However, the story also hints at the darker aspects of this society, including the potential for abuse and the loss of personal autonomy, as well as the complex emotions and challenges Sophia faces in her new environment.
