In the world of werewolves, Ziva, an eighteen-year-old girl, finds herself in a dire and unjust situation within the Granelma Pack. On the night before Tania, Ziva's stepsister, is to be mated, Ziva and Nikolas share an intimate moment, and Nikolas promises to come for her the next morning. However, Ziva discovers that Nikolas has instead marked Tania as his mate during the ceremony, leaving Ziva heartbroken and betrayed. Nikolas' actions are further salt to the wound when he denies any relationship with Ziva, referring to her as an ex-girlfriend and calling her a slave.
The betrayal cuts deep, and Ziva burns all the letters Nikolas sent her, severing ties with him.
