In the aftermath of a harrowing fire that tore through their lives, Deava Vitali finds herself at the center of a crumbling relationship and a web of deceit. Two days have passed since the inferno, and Kirk Moore, her supposed boyfriend, finally calls. But his words are not those of comfort or concern; instead, they are filled with fury and accusations.

“Deava Vitali, when it comes to matters of life and death, why do you always twist things? Aren't you ashamed of your constant jealousy?” Kirk's voice crackles through the phone. “Besides, you're a soldier. You had the ability to escape the fire! Keturah Benton wouldn't have been trapped if she hadn't gone back to save you. Do you realize she almost died because of you? You're truly malicious!”

Unbeknownst to Kirk, Keturah had returned for her forgotten backpack and had become trapped with Deava. Disillusioned and weary of the constant blame, Deava decides not to engage in yet another futile argument. Instead, she drops a bombshell. “Kirk, I had a miscarriage,” she states calmly, her voice devoid of emotion.

“Enough! Even at this moment, you're still lying! Instead of cleaning up your mess, you disappear. How contemptible can you be?” Kirk shouts before abruptly hanging up.

Deava spends five days in the hospital, only to be advised by the doctor to stay two more days. When Kirk finally removes her from his blacklist after Keturah is okay, he contacts her again. “Where are you? I need to talk to you.”

Every previous argument has always ended with Deava taking the blame and seeking forgiveness, even when Kirk was in the wrong. But this time, she refuses to bow her head. When she tries to send him a breakup message, she discovers she's been blocked. Shocked but unsurprised, she realizes he must have called out of impatience.

“Why didn't you reply to my messages?” Kirk demands in a self-righteous tone that elicits laughter from Deava rather than anger. “You blacklisted me. Why should I reply instantly?” she retorts, choosing not to block him back as a final act of mercy, preserving the last shred of his dignity.

When the doctor comes for rounds and notices Kirk, he asks, “Are you in the hospital too?” Kirk admits he's been there since the fire, and his cold response leaves him momentarily speechless. He promises to visit at noon, and Deava, believing it's time to end things, gives him her room number. But as the hours pass and night falls, Kirk fails to show. Deava knows why when she sees Keturah's latest social media update: “Treating my lifesaver and best buddy to dinner. Can't believe he's cooking himself!” The photo shows Kirk in a woman's apron, cooking, with Keturah's hand on his back, an image that radiates an unmistakable intimacy.

At that moment, Deava feels neither anger nor disappointment, only a profound sense of realization that Kirk and Keturah seem meant to be together. Kirk had never cooked for her, always citing a gentleman's place as outside the kitchen. Now, seeing him cook for Keturah, she understands how much she had misjudged their relationship.

Late at night, Deava glances at the time and decides not to question Kirk's absence. Instead, she calls her commander. Before she can speak, he tries to persuade her: “Deava, this promotion opportunity is rare and specialized. Are you sure you want to give it up? Even if you want to get married and have children, you can wait a couple of years. In our army, you are definitely at the forefront of those who can pass the selection!” He then reminds her of her past vows to defend the country.

Deava is filled with shame as she remembers how she had given up her promotion application when she discovered she was pregnant, believing that marrying Kirk and having a family was her future. But after seeing Kirk's actions during the fire, she realizes how wrong she had been. She touches her now-flat abdomen, feeling foolish for sacrificing her dreams for a relationship that had proven to be so empty.

“Deava, tomorrow is the deadline for registration. Are you sure you won't regret it if you give up?” the commander asks, still hopeful. “Commander, I'm sorry for my previous immaturity. Please help me register!” Deava replies, determined to reclaim her life and dreams.

When Deava is discharged from the hospital, Kirk arrives late as usual. As the doctor gives post-discharge instructions, Kirk complains at the door: “Is it really that serious? Seven days in the hospital is enough, but now she can't even touch cold water at home? She's not an endangered animal; is this necessary?” The doctor, shocked, asks if Kirk is her husband, and Deava denies it, saying he's just a friend. Kirk then goes to pick up the medication with a sullen face.

In the car, Deava discovers a mascara that isn't hers and moves to the back seat. Kirk becomes angry, but she points out that it belongs to Keturah. Kirk tries to explain that he saved Keturah instinctively because it was dark and he thought she couldn't escape. But Deava remembers how he had walked away from her during the fire, even though she was nearby.

“There's no need to explain. She's your childhood friend; it's natural to save her,” Deava says coolly, her indifference fueling Kirk's rage.

“Are you still mad that I saved her instead of you? You don't even acknowledge me as your boyfriend in front of others anymore?” Kirk shouts.

“You blocked me; isn't that breaking up?” Deava replies.

“Deava! What are you trying to do? Do you want me to admit that I have something with Keturah? Fine, I'm Keturah's boyfriend! Happy now?” Kirk explodes.

“I'm not making a fuss. Who you want to be with is your business, not mine.”

Just then, Keturah calls, asking Kirk to bring her the mascara. Kirk agrees and suggests they have a meal together afterward, which Deava interprets as a breakup meal. When Keturah arrives, she is dressed in a long, flowing dress, looking ethereal. She playfully teases Kirk about wearing a dress to remind him she's a girl. She notices Deava in the car and invites her to dinner, claiming she wants to thank Kirk for saving her life and clear up any misunderstandings. But Deava sees the triumph and provocation in her eyes as she glances at her flat chest.

Not wanting to be part of this charade, Deava gets out of the car and takes a taxi home. Kirk calls and texts her repeatedly, making excuses for standing her up and cooking for Keturah. But his words only reveal his blindness and insensitivity, and Deava has lost all desire to argue. She realizes that this relationship has become a painful farce, and she must find the strength to move on and rediscover herself.

In the journey that lies ahead, Deava will face the challenges of rebuilding her life, reclaiming her military career, and finding the courage to love and trust again. Will she be able to leave the past behind and find true happiness? Or will the ghosts of her failed relationship continue to haunt her? Find out in this gripping tale of love, betrayal, and self-discovery.
