In the shadow of darkness, a family is pushed to the brink of despair by a merciless fate. A couple, with their 3-year-old daughter, flees for their lives amidst a hail of bullets. Each gunshot is like the howl of death, tearing apart their fragile hope. The bullet, like the fangs of a devil, mercilessly pierces his leg, and the searing pain surges like a raging tide. But with tenacious will, he manages to hold on to his crumbling body.
"Run!" he shouts with all his might, mustering every ounce of strength to push his wife forward. The wife's eyes are filled with terror and reluctance, tears welling up in her eyes, and her steps become hesitant. However, the group of pursuers behind them, like wolves, are closing in relentlessly, leaving them no room for hesitation.
"I'll catch up with you later!" he gasps, his voice resolute. The wife tightly clutches their sleeping daughter in her arms, their most precious treasure in this cruel world.
"Let's run together!" she cries out, grabbing her husband's arm with one hand as if it were her last lifeline.
They dash into an alley in a panic. The husband suddenly stops, a glimmer of pain and determination flashing in his eyes.
"Leave her here…" his voice is low and hoarse, as if each word bears the weight of a thousand pounds.
"What?" the wife's eyes widen in disbelief.
"We can't escape with her. It's too dangerous for her to be with us." The husband grips his wife's shoulders tightly, trying to make her understand this helpless choice. Despite his best efforts to conceal it, the wife still sees the deep pain and endless sadness in his eyes.
"No! We can't abandon her!" The wife's tears stream down her face, and she holds the daughter even tighter, as if her embrace could form an impenetrable fortress for the child. "She needs us, and we can't live without her. It's too dangerous to leave her here alone!"
The husband seizes the wife's face, his voice almost a roar: "If they catch her, she'll be in even greater danger! Do you want them to take her?" The wife's body shudders violently. These words are like a sledgehammer, jolting her awake. She slowly turns to look at the daughter in her arms, the little one sleeping soundly, her pink cheeks like an angel's. She is so innocent, should have been growing up carefree in a loving world, yet is caught up in this cruel twist of fate.
"Love…" the husband gently caresses the wife's cheek, tears glistening in his eyes. "I know this is hard, but for her sake, we have to. I know someone… someone will take care of her and give her the love she deserves."
The wife sobs uncontrollably. She knows what he says is true. She slowly crouches down and gently places the daughter in a box, tears dripping onto the baby's soft cheeks like broken pearls.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart. Mommy and Daddy are sorry we can't grow up with you." She chokes back a sob.
"But we promise we'll watch over you from afar. Remember…" The husband forces a smile through his pain. "We'll always love you, Rosie."
Time passes, and the wheels of fate turn quietly. On a sunny day, little Ivan rides his bicycle, chewing gum, carefree as he weaves through the streets and alleys. When he turns into a narrow lane, a faint cry shatters the tranquility. At first, he thinks it's his imagination, but the crying grows louder, like a sharp hook tugging at his heart.
"Am I hallucinating or what?" he mutters to himself, stopping his bicycle in confusion and following the sound.
Finally, he stops in front of a box covered with a coat. He lifts the coat cautiously, and his eyes widen in astonishment as he exclaims, "A baby!"
The baby is crying, her face flushed from hunger. Ivan is at a loss, having no other option but to take the baby to the orphanage where his mother works. He scoops up the baby gently and dashes to the orphanage.
"Mom, I found this baby in the alley!" Ivan shouts anxiously.
His mother and the nuns come running at the sound, their expressions a mix of shock and pity when they see the baby.
"Give me the baby, and you call your mother," the nun says, hurrying to take the baby into the kitchen.
Ivan quickly dials his mother's number. His mother rushes over and sees the nun holding the baby with a bottle in her hand.
"Whose baby is this? How could someone leave a baby in the alley?" The mother's heart aches with sympathy.
"Mom, she was crying non-stop. She must be hungry," Ivan tugs at his mother's sleeve.
"It's a girl," the mother murmurs softly, stroking the baby's cheek. "Sweetheart, where did you find her?"
"In the alley," Ivan replies, a proud smile on his face.
The mother looks at him, her emotions in turmoil. She is deeply saddened by the baby's plight yet touched by her son's kindness.
"She's been abandoned. Poor thing," the mother sighs, tears welling up in her eyes. "Ivan, did you find anything that might show her name?"
Ivan frowns in thought, then shakes his head. Suddenly, his eyes light up as he pulls a pacifier out of his pocket.
"Mom, I only found this!" he chuckles.
"Good boy. We'll take this girl in," the mother smiles, her eyes filled with love.
"Am I going to have a little sister?" Ivan jumps up and down, his eyes shining with excitement.
The mother nods with a smile. Ivan is overjoyed. He has never thought about having another sibling since his mother couldn't have another child.
"Mom, are you going to adopt her?" one of the nuns asks.
"Yes. She's been abandoned by her parents. She needs someone to be with her and take care of her," the mother says, caressing the baby's cheek with a smile as tears slide down her face.
"Mom! What about her name?" Ivan pulls at his mother's clothes.
"Hmm, I'm not sure," the mother says.
"Can I suggest it?" Ivan grins.
The mother smiles and nods.
"Her name is going to be Darliana!"
Ivan's mother looks at the baby. The name is beautiful and unique, and it suits her. "Darliana… huh?"
"Welcome to our family, Darliana."
As time flies, the little girl Darliana grows up under the love and care of her family. She is intelligent, kind, and cute, but deep inside, she harbors a sense of inferiority and unease. She knows she is adopted, and although her family treats her like their own, she always feels like a burden.
After graduating from high school, Darliana resolutely decides to live on her own, eager to prove her worth and find her own path in life. Her decision makes her family extremely worried, especially her brother Ivan, who tries his best to dissuade her, but Darliana is determined.
"Sis, are you sure you can make it on your own? You've never lived independently before. Mom, Dad, and I are all worried about you." Ivan frowns, his eyes full of concern.
"Brother, I want to try. I don't want to rely on you all the time," Darliana says firmly, despite the fear and anxiety in her heart.
She rents a small apartment and embarks on the journey of living alone. Finding a job becomes her top priority, and she sends out countless resumes online, but all in vain.
One night, hungry Darliana comes to her favorite café. As usual, she hopes to find some warmth and comfort here.
"Hi, little girl. I heard you moved to a new apartment?" the café owner, Mr. John, greets her with a smile.
"Hello, Mr. John! Yes, I did. It's a bit far, but I like walking here," Darliana answers with a smile, her hands clasped tightly.
"Walking? It's so cold outside, and you walked all the way here?" Mr. John looks at her in surprise.
"It's okay. I like walking," Darliana says with a smile.
Mr. John shakes his head helplessly and turns to prepare food for her. Darliana is about to find a seat when she accidentally bumps into someone. She falls to the ground, and the pain makes tears well up in her eyes.
"I'm sorry, little one. Are you okay?" a gentle voice asks, and a pair of strong hands help her up.
Darliana looks up and sees a handsome man with blond hair and blue eyes, dressed in a suit. Her face turns red instantly, and her heart starts pounding.
"You look so pretty," she blurts out, realizing her embarrassment only after the words leave her mouth. Her face turns even redder.
The man laughs, his laughter as warm as the sun. "You're such a cute girl. I'm Adam. And you are?"
"I'm Darliana," she lowers her head, nervously playing with her fingers.
"Nice to meet you, Darliana. What a beautiful name. What are you doing here? Buying food? Or do you work here?" Adam asks curiously.
"I… I don't have a job. I'm here for food," Darliana answers softly.
"No job? Are you looking for one?" Adam raises an eyebrow, looking her up and down.
"Um, I have a plan," Darliana nods.
"How about working at my friend's company?" Adam smiles.
"What?" Darliana looks up in surprise, unable to believe her ears.
The wheels of fate turn again, and Darliana's life is about to set foot on a brand-new path, full of unknown challenges and opportunities. How will she survive in the new environment? What kind of story will she have with Adam and his mysterious friends? Stay tuned for the exciting continuation.
